Last week I had the honour to interview a young extremely talented young artist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Her name is Valentinza Vezzani, a designer who doesn't divide her work under stereotypes such as: sizes, gender or seasons! She believes that stereotypes just limit us and our creation, so what she does is doing individual pieces of cloth for each person!

She believes that each piece of cloth is really a unique piece of art for an individual ( you will never find two same items!). How many times have we been to a party and found someone with the same dress or shirt and you just wanted to die!? Well while wearing a Valentina Vezzani item you would never need to worry about that.

After seeing her work, I can confirm that it is totally revolutionary and out of the box! Each of them are 100% homemade and what you can perceive from it are creativity and authenticity. Whats more, I had the pleasure to interview her in her studio where she does her work. Oh and last but not least, I couldn't resist buying a kimono from her!

Her work under her own words and images:

1. Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

My name is Valentina Vezzani. I'm 27 years old, and I'm from Buenos Aires - Argentina. I studied Graphic Design for two years, and then I dedicated myself to finish my degree in Clothing and Textile Design, that made me realize my passion for the textile world.

2. Tell us about your project “Valentina Vezzani”?

This project that is under my name, started at the end of 2018 with the idea of mixing art and design. My wish was that someone could wear "a unique piece of art" on their body and stand out. The main idea of this project is to try to change aspects of the fashion industry, for example no genres and no seasons for each collection. As well, getting rid of the size tags so that means that all the garments are tailored-made.

3. What do you want to project to the world with this project?

I want to transmit inclusion and authenticity, being able to complement art with clothing.

4. Can you please explain to us how the process of doing one item of your cloth is done?

As for the process, it is never the same, I make changes every time so as not to get bored and not make everything so systematic, but usually I start experimenting with the prints and then I make sketches of the garments.

The entire project is self-managing (autogestivo) and I make the pattern clothing, the prints, and the sewing. For the stamp, I generally use the sublimation method, so I send the textile to a specific place, since special heat machines are needed, except that, everything is handmade and homemade.

7) What about sizes…. ? Big topic for us (woman)

As I have said before, the project has a lot of focus on inclusiveness. The idea is to make all custom sizes, since the size chart is never one hundred percent real.

8) So can we say that you are an entrepreneur? What were the main obstacles that you had to face?

My biggest obstacle to start this, was fear of failure. That is why during my life, unfortunately, whenever I started a project, I never finished them: because of fear. I left everything halfway. Over time, and as I grew up, I realized that if I left things halfway, I would never be able to see a personal evolution, or, I was not going to learn from the mistakes and challenges that life presented to me, and If things didn't go as planned, I had other paths, and that was going to be fine too. If you don't make mistakes, you don't learn. And success is in the process of things.

9) What would you say to the audience that is listening to you and have the same fears as you experienced?

I think that fear will always be with us when we make the decision to start something new, something unknown. We are afraid to get out of our comfort zone, and that things will not go our way. This is part of life, and you have to take it as a challenge. Personally, I think that when you do what you love, you always do it with fear, and that is what motivates you to continue at the same time. And little by little, things are going to work out.

Something funny that happened after the interview was the fact that, I love cloth and I love design! After the interview with Valentina and seeing her work, I couldn't stop thinking about a kimono that was just in front of me (and she realized that). So she asked me if I wanted to try it on. Of course I said yes!! And as anyone who knows me, the result was that the kimono is with me and is actually one of my favorite items of clothing. The fabric is amazing and the colors are stunning.
