Yesterday, I had the opportunity to interview the owner of "Lulú Bakery", her name is Eugenia Igarzabal.
Below is how she tells us the story behind her project and how the dream began. Join us in her journey.

Please tell us about yourself
My name is Eugenia Igarzabal and I am 26 years old. I am a lawyer and a pastry chef. In 2018 I graduated as a lawyer and decided it was time to study what I always dreamt of: pastry. When I was little, I used to help my grandfather “Tata” cooking pasta whenever my parents were working, and he was babysitting me. During the years, I started learning new recipes and paying attention when someone was cooking, so that I could learn something new. So, in 2019, when I got the opportunity to do the professional pastry chef career, I decided to give it a chance. It was the best decision I’ve ever made, and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
What about your project? What is it about?
I started Lulú Bakery with the intention of doing what I love. There is nothing more satisfying than that. One day I was chatting with a friend about my project idea, and I decided I wanted everyone to be able to try what I bake. I adapted every recipe I had to the Argentinian taste, approachable for everyone but with an appealing presentation. I wanted to be present in people’s happiest memories such as birthdays, anniversaries or maybe just someone expressing their love by surprising a friend or family member with a sweet treat.
Why the name “Lulu Bakery”?
When I was brainstorming for brand name ideas, I decided I wanted it to be special for me. My whole life, my family called me Lulú or Luli. It all started when I was very little and I was watching “La pequeña Lulú” or “The little Lulu“ TV show all day long. And that is why I decided it was a great name. Not only is it short and catchy but it also represents me and my family.
What was your favourite part of having your own project?
The best part is getting to make every single decision. From choosing the boxes to the recipes I wanted to use. I tried new things, I explored the baking world and tried to bring the best of it to the table. Another aspect I love is that whenever I bake, time flies. I could bake for hours non-stop but for me it has been only an hour or so. But that is something I knew before I started this project. What I didn’t expect was people’s feedback. They really are my biggest reward, always telling me how good my food or presentation was, thanking me for making them or their relative happy. That was something that blew me off and I’m forever grateful for it.
The main obstacles? How did you overcome them?
I think that my main obstacle was myself. I was afraid of what people might think of me. I was very shy and didn’t promote my Instagram page on my personal one just because I was constantly thinking “what are people going to say”; “I graduated as a lawyer and suddenly I changed my mind”. I was no longer what most people “expected” from me. I was afraid of failure. But as I started receiving client’s feedback, and seeing how much progress I made, I thought to myself “I’m all in”. I was going to give my project my best shot. My clients gave me the strength that I needed to believe a hundred percent in myself.
How did you make the decision of making it?
For a few months, I worked on a café located in Palermo. I learnt a lot there, but I would always have good ideas to improve some dishes that I kept to myself, because that was not my project. And although it was a great place to learn new things, I couldn’t make my own decisions. This was someone else’s dream. So that’s when I decided I had to go after mine.
What message/ Advise would you give to the audience listening to you right now?
Follow your dreams. Give it your best shot. If you don’t do it now, you will always wonder what would have happened. If you do it with love and passion, I think you have great chances of succeeding.
